The near-mythical Area 51 is a highly restricted U.S. military research site in the Nevada desert. Its existence remained secret for decades and was only officially acknowledged by the CIA in 2013. Protected by motion sensors, armed patrols, and a no-fly zone covering the entire site, it’s no surprise it is surrounded by conspiracy theories. Rumours suggest it houses an underground research facility, where crashed spaceships and their extraterrestrial crews – dead or alive – are studied. Alien technologies, such as anti-gravity systems, would be reverse-engineered to develop cutting-edge aircraft and weapons on-site. However, sightings of unidentified flying objects are not yet proof of extraterrestrial origin, and many so-called ‘evidence’ photos have been debunked as hoaxes.
