Birds Aren't Real
"Is it true that all birds were replaced by spy drones in the 70s?"
Allegedly, the extinction of birds happened during the Nixon administration – since then, millions of deceptively real robotic birds have populated the skies. This theory, however, is not meant to be taken seriously. It was conceived by artist Peter McIndoe and launched in 2017 through the distribution of ‘Birds Aren’t Real’ stickers across various cities in the USA. The purpose of this satirical movement was to mimic the style of actual conspiracy theories so convincingly that it would attract believers, only to later unveil its satirical nature. It took the irrationality of conspiracy theories to absurd extremes and highlighted how easily people can be misled by misinformation. The campaign became a viral hit. A warning?
