It is speculated that she knew too much about the machinations of the entertainment industry or high-profile political figures. In particular, she is rumoured to have had an affair with then US President John F. Kennedy. To prevent a scandal, individuals in the Kennedy circle are said to have had her murdered. Another theory holds the Ma- fia responsible for her death. However, the official investigation concluded that her death was due to an overdose of barbiturates and classified the case as suicide.
