McDonalds
Did you know that McDonald‘s and other fast food chains pur- posefully use artificial flavourings (such as monosodium gluta- mate) in their products to addict customers in order to increase sales? This conspiracy myth is based on studies that have shown that certain chemicals can stimulate the reward centre in the brain. It is therefore feared that the consumption of flavour-enhanced fast food could lead to addiction, similar to drugs. So far, such a connection has not been proven. It is a fact that fast food is not one of the healthiest forms of nutrition. However, the theory that McDonald‘s is maliciously trying to harm the population with obesity- and disease-causing products is not based on evidence, but is an urban legend.
