McDonalds
"Does McDonaldís purposely turn us into junk food junkies?"
That’s what conspiracy theorists claim to know for sure! McDonald’s and other fast food chains would purposefully use artificial flavorings, such as monosodium glutamate, in their products to increase cravings. This conspiracy myth is based on studies that have shown that certain chemicals can stimulate the reward center in the brain. It is therefore feared that the consumption of flavor-enhanced fast food could lead to addiction, similar to drugs. So far, such a connection has not been proven. It’s true, fast food is not exactly the healthiest form of nutrition. But the idea that McDonald’s is turning us into junk food junkies, helplessly at the mercy of our cravings, seems far-fetched. Or are you already hungry again?
