Montauk Project
According to a well-known conspiracy theory, there was a secret US government project in Montauk (New York) in the 1970s and 80s in which attempts were made to influence or even remotely control the thoughts of millions of Americans. Allegedly, a special radar facility was set up for this purpose at Camp Hero Air Force Base. The origin of this conspiracy theory can be traced back to the 1992 book The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time by Preston Nichols, who claimed to have been involved in the project as a researcher. To this day, however, there is no solid evidence to support his claims and pseudoscientific theories, such as that human consciousness can be influenced by certain radar frequencies; nor that a project like Montauk ever existed at all.
