Neo-pagans are contemporaries who identify with pre-Christian religions such as Wicca, Asatru, and Druidism. Conspiracy theorists claim that satanic ritual abuse and human sacrifices are part of their practices. Through these occult rituals, they are said to be trying to achieve world domination.
These ideas mostly stem from Christian fundamentalists, who associate pagan practices with pure evil. As late as the 18th century, witches were persecuted for this reason. Even today, they are still portrayed as villains in children’s books and fairy tales. In reality, they have hardly ever been involved in criminal activities.
