Since NASA stopped launching rockets in 2011 for cost reasons, private companies around the world have been competing for a huge future business in space tourism, satellite operations and the mining of raw materials. A new space age is dawning! Billionaires such as Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos are sending rockets, people and technology into space. Who will win the race? Conspiracy theorists warn that the thousands of satellites in particular could be misused as secret spying or weapons systems to monitor or threaten the Earth‘s population. Others believe that they could transmit energy wirelessly, cause natural disasters or even manipulate people‘s thoughts and emotions. However, so far these claims are scientifically unfounded and seem implausible.
