Critics particularly warn from spraying aerosols that reflect the sun’s rays back into space, aiming to cool the planet but possibly also altering weather patterns in unpredictable ways. Conspiracy theorists paint a more sinister picture: they envision geoengineering as a formidable weapon in the arsenal of global powers. According to them, the ability to withhold rain or unleash floods could be used as a subtle form of geopolitical warfare or coercion. However, so far, this remains science fiction.
