That’s what many conspiracy theories claim. According to them, the virus was either intentionally or accidentally released, and the Chinese government tried to cover it up. Equally often, it is claimed that Bill Gates is behind the coronavirus. His evil master plan? To reduce the world’s population. Sure – but then it was rather sloppy. So much more work to do!
However, it is undisputed that the first outbreak of COVID-19 was registered in December 2019 at the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan. The majority of scientists agree that the virus developed naturally and jumped from animals to humans.
