Zedakiah's Cave

Zedekiah‘s Cave is a natural cave below the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Based on the belief of the British freemasons, that King Solomon was the first freemason, they conducted secret rituals in the cave from 1854 with the permission of the Ottoman Empire. Since then, conspiracy theorists have let their imaginations run wild as to what these secret ceremonies might involve: Devil wor- ship, goat‘s blood, virgin sacrifices and orgies. The usual accusations against the usual suspects – grounded on resentment, not in reality. As the cave is located in the immediate vicinity of sacred sites, access to it is restricted. However, it can be visited as part of a guided tour, which thousands of pilgrims and tourists do. It is therefore rather unlikely that it is still used for secret meetings.
